Rising east of Highway 30 near Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, the large metal structure 2 floors covering over 150,000 ft2 is a fine example of the symbiotic relationship between the structure and architecture in an industrial project construction steel structure.
The whole structure of the building consists of a steel structure, with the exception of a pedestrian tunnel linking the offices to the processing area and underground basins station wastewater treatment that are made of concrete armed.
The use of structural steel in the construction of this building has allowed professionals to combine geometry, functionality, durability and aesthetics and focus the abundance of natural light with amenities and common areas superior to the front part of the plant where it contains the offices and laboratories.
A unique feature of this imposing structure is the type of system resistance lateral forces retained by the structural designers, or the use of a bracing system with ductile 'fuse'. In addition to significantly reduce the number of braces, use a bracing system with ductile X 'fuse' has significantly reduced the total tonnage of structural steel. For this project, the use of a bracing system with ductile X 'fuse' has saved nearly 5% on the total weight of the structure; which is far from negligible for a structure of this scale.
Since virtually all sectors of the plant part (processing, cooking, packaging, shipping, receiving, freezing, waste, etc.) must be cleaned and sanitized during the night shift, we used to use massive stainless steel materials to design, walkways, lifting equipment, and to cover the most exposed to various washing structural components using chemicals. Only sectors offices and board mill located on the 2nd floor of the plant, are not subject to daily rigorous inspection by agents of the Agency.
