EMS services were retained by the City of Québec to carry out the reconstruction of the d’Youville skating rink. Although the geometry has been preserved, the concrete slab, over 30 years old, was completely demolished and rebuilt as new using colored concrete to harmonize with existing pink granite steps and pavement of the Place d'Youville. Saw lines were also made every 300mm in each direction to mimic the surrounding pavement.
The refrigeration ducts of the slab were also refurbished. A drainage gutter was added at the bottom of the steps in front of the Palais Montcalm in order to prevent runoff, full of salt in winter, from pouring into the icy surface in winter. New strips with integrated bench, completely removable, were built to allow the skaters to rest while admiring the fabulous surrounding scenery of the place of d’Youville.
