Located near the Quebec Bridge and overlooking the Saint Lawrence River, the Aquarium du Québec has an animal collection of more than 10,000 marine animals and its mission is education, conservation, research and recreation. Under the management of the Société des établissements de plein air du Québec (Sépaq), this zoological institution, unique in Quebec, has more than a dozen buildings with various functions.
Sépaq used EMS services to build a new warehouse with an area of approximately 15,000 square feet. The new construction allowed the Aquarium du Québec to consolidate its maintenance operations under one roof and thus increase its operation efficiency. Built on a conventional concrete foundation resting on the rock, the new building is made of a steel frame. Upstairs, there are technical areas, a large multipurpose room and offices. The roof is also made of a steel structure with a steel deck. The new warehouse was established on the site by taking into account its topography in order to limit the rock excavations and to minimize the impacts on the environment. A terrace has also been built on the roof to allow employees to enjoy a lounge and dining area with a magnificent view.
