Alt Hotel - University District, Calgary

The Alt Hotel UD Calgary is a 15-story, 156-room LEED Silver building with 156 rooms located near the University of Calgary in the University District commercial and residential development. This conventional reinforced concrete building is supported by a two-story underground parking lot and adjoins a six-story condominium building. The project included two separate design teams, ours for the hotel project, and the second team for the underground parking lot and the condominium building. Close coordination had therefore to be established throughout the project between the various stakeholders in order to complete the project. Another peculiarity is the need to adapt the structural structure of the building to meet the needs of the hotel rooms without sacrificing parking spaces on the underground levels. To do this, a transfer slab was designed on the third floor to relocate almost the entire structural frame of the building.
