This magnificent home was designed by renowned architect Pierre Thibault of Quebec. The underlying idea of the architecture of "The Black House" emerged intrinsic qualities of its site: a beautiful rocky promontory overlooking Lake of Two Mountains, in the Laurentians. Designed as a simple element delicately placed in the landscape, the house mimics the old barns blackened by age and even in the manner of cottages by the sea, standing against the wind. The house has an open plan, rectangular in shape where all interior spaces are oriented toward the lake, while the public facade is almost entirely closed. In the lounge, the ceiling and large windows provide a breathtaking view of the sky and nature. The interior spaces extend to the landscape through generous terraces, pergola and porch, creating ambiguity between interior and exterior spaces. The dark color of the outer sheath offers a silence in the landscape and gives meaning to the surrounding nature, while the whiteness of the interior creates a warm and bright space that opens to the lake.
