The project consists of the construction of a multifunctional wooden footbridge over the Saint-Charles River between Pointe-aux-Lièvres Park and the extension of 8th Street in the La Cité-Limoilou borough of the City of Quebec. Standing proudly above the Saint-Charles River, the cable-stayed wooden structure of the footbridge blends harmoniously into its environment. The footbridge has a span of 87.7m and its structural system comprises a mast made up of 2 glued-laminated timber columns measuring 900mm in diameter, connected by a tapered steel cap. The suspension is ensured by 2 steel cables 60mm in diameter supporting a cross-laminated wooden deck 175mm thick covered with a waterproofing membrane and decking. The abutments are made of reinforced concrete and placed on steel piles. The waterproofing system located between the CLT panels and the decking ensures the protection of the structural characteristics of the deck. The bike path and landscaping near the bridge were also included in the project.
In addition to the footbridge, which ensures the circulation of pedestrians and cyclists over the Saint-Charles River in an East-West direction, a lookout located under the footbridge, and suspended from it, ensures the circulation of the bike path. The belvedere is also a privileged place to enjoy nature from a spectacular point of view of the river.
